PARTNER APPOINTMENT ENHANCES BDW'S CAPITAL MARKETS AND SECURITISATION PRACTICE

Sydney, Wednesday 2 July, 2003: Blake Dawson Waldron continues to strengthen its position in the capital markets and securitisation sector with the partner appointment of international capital markets and structured funds lawyer, Tessa Hoser.
A dual UK/Australian qualified capital markets and securitisation practitioner; Tessa is also a well-known participant in the hedge funds market. She joined the firm 12 months ago as part of a strategic initiative to expand BDW's active securitisation and capital markets practice and develop opportunities in alternative investment products such as hedge funds and structured investments.
Leader of the capital markets and securitisation practice David Mason said: "Tessa brings a wealth of international experience and a unique perspective to our practice, having worked extensively in the European market as a senior in-house lawyer and in private practice here and in the UK. Taking advantage of this Tessa recently acted on one of the few rated synthetic securitisations in the Australian market – the UBS-arranged SPARC program and co-led with Richard Fawcett, Network TEN's debut US capital markets issue.

Commenting on Blakes strengthening of its team, John Carrington, BDW Executive Partner said: "Tessa's appointment is the most recent development in a very active growth program for Blakes in this sector. Other recent appointments have included partner, Gamini Colless specialising in property securitisation, construction finance and structured property and senior associate, Jim Hunwick, formerly of Allen & Overy's Tokyo office, specialising in international capital markets, securitisations and convertible issues. This growth has been matched by the capital markets and securitisation team taking a market leading position in some of the less commoditised securitisations such as the non-conforming loans sector. One of the highlights included acting for Barclays on various deals including the Bluestone A$300m Sapphire II transaction which INSTO magazine named its Mortgage Backed Securities Deal of the Year for 2002. We were also lead lawyers in acting on the largest Australian credit-wrapped MTN issue to date, the Sydney Airports deal and have just completed the first PPP-backed US private placement relating to the Spencer Street Station financing."
